Botanical Name: Mentha pulegium
 
Powerful protection and warding- Pennyroyal is traditionally used to break hexes, dispel unwanted energies, and create strong protective barriers around people and spaces.
 
Encourage assertiveness and boundaries- Helps stregthen personal power and assertiveness, supporting you in saying "no" and holding firm boundaries.
 
Aid in banishing and releasing rituals- Used to help cut ties with negative patterns, relationships, or stagnant energies.
 
Support transitions and rebirth- Associated with clearing the old to make way for new growth and transfirmation. 
 
IMPORTANT NOTE: 
While Pennyroyal has historical internal uses (e.g. as an emmenagogue to stimulate menstration), it is no longer recommended internally due to significant toxicity risks.
 
Traditionally used as a topical insect repellant- the dried herb has been placed around spaces or in sachets to deter insects.
 
Aromatic uses- Sometimes used in sachets or simmer pots for it's strong, minty scent to freshen spaces and repel pests.
 
Cautions:
Do not ingest- Pennyroyal can be highly toxic when taken internally; it can cause serious liver and kidney damage, seizures, and can be fatal.
 
Avoid use during preganacy- Strong uterine stimulant; historically used to induce menstration and abortions - absolutely contrainicated.
 
Consult a knowledgable practitioner before any use- This is a potent plant requiring great respect and caution.
